we stayed with our friends 14th/15th april we had a great night went in to the pub at 4.30 for 1 drink and left at 10.30 needless to say had more than 1 ! food lovely. rooms tastefully decorated .staff fantastic and make you feel so welcome very enjoyable stay hope marks not too bruised from his fall down the stairs

This is quite a unique place- the bar area is very welcoming and the charming restaurant is in several parts, the pub being built on a slope each room is at a different level, and one has a well in it. The food is amazing and deserving of it’s awards- especially the gastro pies (I am not easy to fill up but these did!). If you are going as a couple do yourselves a favour and order different pies each, then share as it is worth tasting different ones! It was also nice to see Abbott Ale and Old Speckled Hen on tap. The bed was huge (I could have sneaked another woman in whilst my wife was asleep but decided not to!) and had two duvets to make it warm- and the facilities were good- the rooms were in a charming little courtyard area which was very well looked after, and everywhere you look there were things to see, read etc.- little touches like the lovely open fire which was frequently attended, and landlord (who is Irish) putting Irish jokes on the wall…! The local area had a lot to do, especially if you are an outdoors type like us, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a tad cold in this un-seasonable weather but I am sure had we have been bothered to mention it the staff would have immediately helped- they are like that (especially the nice girl behind the bar who seemed very helpful, unlike a lot of staff in other places nowadays!). Will we go back? Yes.

If you like top quality pies, in a cosy pub environment, washed down with a lovely ale – look no further!
Between the four of us we had steak with Guinness, one with Stilton, one with Brie and the Famous Fish pie. The 4th had ham, egg and chips which was a mountain of ham!
These pies are delicious
